With a clinic space in Wicklow Town Emma works with families and foster families to support each child to function and participate in a range of settings, supporting parents and foster carers with their child’s development, focussing on collaborative goal setting so that each child is supported to reach their full potential. The challenges of self-regulation, sensory processing difficulties, anxiety and poor interoceptive awareness are just some of the areas Emma loves to work on!

Emma Douglas is a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 15 years of experience, working in both the UK and Ireland. Emma qualified as an OT in 2009 from Glasgow Caledonian University with a Distinction. She completed a Masters dissertation deemed of publishable quality, on the subject of the relationship between Occupational Therapy and social activism.

Since qualifying, Emma has worked with children and adults in both in-patient and community settings, before specialising in Paediatrics in 2016. She has worked in Primary Care and Disability services in Ireland since, working as part of multi-disciplinary teams and as an independent clinician, undertaking private work in Ireland since 2017. Emma is ADOS and ADIR trained and continues to undertake training in Sensory Integration and Sensory Attachment Intervention.

Set up of a clinic in Wicklow Town offering a range of Paediatric OT services (assessment and intervention) from own clinic space.

Senior Occupational Therapist, Key Assets Consulting; November 2022 – March 2024

Transferred from consulting role to staff role; working within an interdisciplinary framework providing child and adolescent Occupational Therapy assessments and post diagnostic supports including administering ADOS (autism) assessments and feeding into clinical discussions around diagnoses. Specialist in trauma-informed OT assessments.

Consulting Occupational Therapist, Private Practice; January 2017–Present
  • Providing a Paediatric OT service, carrying out assessments and interventions with regard to motor skills (including DCD/dyspraxia assessment), handwriting (including assessments for assistive technology), sensory processing and self-regulation skills, organisational skills, support and advice with regards to independence skills for home, school and beyond.
  • Providing a housing assessment and advice service, working with individuals in their own homes and advising how the built environment can be adapted to suit their current and future needs, based on their medical diagnoses, functional abilities and projected progression of their conditions.
  • Commenced senior consulting role with Key Assets Consulting in July 2021; providing child and adolescent occupational therapy assessments, ASD assessments (within MDT) and specialist trauma informed assessments.

  • Providing an occupational therapy service to adults over the age of 65, serving the stroke ward within a sub-acute rehabilitation hospital. Assessing clients’ sensory, motor and perceptual skills following stroke, providing a rehabilitation service based on the Bobath (neurodevelopmental) approach, planning for future discharge considering the individual’s valued roles and occupations.
